Ecclesiastes 2:13-14 , LEB -
I realized that wisdom has an advantage over foolishness,
just as light has an advantage over darkness.
The wise man can see where he is walking,
but the fool walks in darkness.
Has anyone here ever tried to walk in a dark room? I have, and most of the time I've tripped over and bump my head into something. Now imagine that the next time you go to walk in the dark, you carry a flashlight with you so that you don't fall over again. What would you consider yourself? You would be wise!
You knew that you would hurt yourself if you didn't have a flashlight, so you brought one to make sure that you wouldn't bump your head into something again. You saw the problem, you knew the solution, and you connected the dots.
This is how we are supposed to be as Christians and followers of Jesus. We are supposed to be prepared with the light of Christ so that we don't walk in the darkness. What are our 2 main lights that we use as Christians to keep from walking in the dark? Let's find out:
Psalm 119:105 , NLT -
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.
We see one light here, which is God's word. The Word of God is supposed to be our source of light to walk in this dark world. Without it, it can be easy to follow our own path.
Reading God's word and thinking about it throughout the day is how we keep the devil away from us. It helps to guide us in doing good things and not continually doing bad things.
Now, what is our second light to help us stay away from the darkness? Let's find that out.
Psalm 27:1 , NLT -
The LORD is my light and my salvation—
So why should I be afraid?
The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
So why should I tremble?
It is God! He is our light!
So how do we keep God close to us in our life? We pray! If we keep on talking to God and build our relationship with Him just like we do with friends and family, He will be so close to us that we will no longer be surrounded by darkness! It can also help to light up our friend's world too!
Jesus sticks with us better than any friend we have, and you can talk to Him whenever you need Him! Reading your Bible and praying everyday helps you to walk in the light that God has given you to help you.
We always want to make sure that Jesus is #1 in our life and we can do that by reading His word and talking to Him. This will keep our paths bright!
